Significant Changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP):
Employer Cap Reduced: Employers can now only fill up to 10% of their low-wage positions with Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs).
Work Permit Duration Limited: Work permits issued to TFWs in low-wage positions are now limited to one year.
Restrictions in High-Unemployment Regions: Applications from employers in regions with unemployment rates exceeding 6% are restricted.
Other Notable News:
Express Entry Draws: Several Express Entry draws were conducted throughout December, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to eligible candidates.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs): Various provinces continued to conduct PNP draws, inviting eligible candidates to apply for provincial nomination.
Focus on French Speakers: The Canadian government announced a new permanent residence pathway for French speakers.
